When Life Gives You LEMONS, Make Some LEMON OIL! You’ll Feel MUCH, MUCH Better!!!
Do you think that life gives you enough lemons? It takes 3,000 lemons to produce one kilogram of lemon oil! Use it drop by drop to improve your mood!
Lemon oil is an essential oil extracted from yellow part of the lemon peel through a cold-extraction process. 3,000 lemons are needed to produce 1 kilogram of essential oil. The oil has a yellowish to light green color, and it smells clean and refreshing!!!
The good part about the lemon oil is that researchers from Ohio State University have proven that inhaling lemon essential oil may improve mood. Their study examined the consequences of inhaling one purported relaxant odor (lavender), one stimulant odor (lemon), and a no-odor control (water), before and after a stressor (cold pressor). 56 men and women were exposed to each of the odors during three separate visits. Self-report and unobtrusive mood measures provided robust evidence that the lemon oil reliably enhances positive mood compared to water and lavender regardless of expectancies or previous use of aromatherapy. Moreover, norepinephrine levels following the cold pressor remained elevated when subjects smelled lemon, compared to water or lavender.
Other preliminary studies have indicated that lemon oil reduces anxiety and stress levels (it lowers the levels of corticosterone stress hormone). It is also believed that the smell of lemon oil increases concentration and alertness. It activates the center of the hippocampus and triggers left brain, rational thinking, so it can be successfully used during weight loss programs to control the food cravings.
How can the lemon oil be used to get you into some good mood?
Whenever you feel tired or you have troubles to concentrate, you should add 4 drops of lemon oil into an aromatherapy lamp. The lemon oil can also be used in any other kind of vaporizer or diffuser. If you will decide to use it in your office or at home as a room freshener, you will certainly become more efficient.
To keep the effect of the lemon essential oil throughout the day, you can apply the oil directly to the skin or you can put it on a handkerchief and smell it periodically. Before applying it to your skin, evaluate the risk of contact sensitivity, by testing the lemon oil on a small skin patch.
If you’ll decide to combine it with other calming essential oils, such as valerian, hops, and chamomile oil, you will get an anxiety reducing effect and you will defeat your insomnia.
