What Is a Triathlon?
There are always three (hence the tri) parts of the competition, which include swim, bike and run.
It always follows the same order. This at least reduces your chance of drowning when you’ve had enough.
The distances of the competition can vary quite significantly. It could be a 400-meter swimming race, a 10km cycling race and then a 2.5km run.
However, the so-called “iron-man” competition includes a 3.8km swim, 180km ride, and 42km run. That may be too much for beginners.
A good medium standard is a 1500m swim, 40km ride, and 10km run. If you’re fit and healthy, you can probably manage this with the right preparation.
What Do You need?
For the basics of a triathlon, you need to gather a few important items. These include:
- Wetsuit for triathlon
- Running shoes
- Racing bicycle
- Water bottle
- Snacks
Remember, you’ve got to get the right equipment to make sure you perform at your best in the race.
