Understanding the Ayurvedic Cleansing Process


With all the advancements in technology, people have grown accustomed to getting information in real-time and getting results instantly. The want of instant results also holds when a person gets sick. People who are suffering from illness would most likely go to their doctor for treatment.

Although there is a truth that medicines do save lives, a lot of these synthetically-made medicines are only meant to alleviate the symptoms of an illness. They may not fully eliminate the root cause of such illness.

What is Ayurveda? 

While going to a doctor to get immediate relief from symptoms is advisable, it is also important to look at your illness’s root cause in a holistic approach through ayurvedic medicine. Ayurvedic medicine or Ayurveda is one of the oldest healing systems globally and has been practiced in India for more than 3000 years.

Ayurveda is a holistic approach to healing with the premise that a person’s mind, body, and spirit must be in a state of harmony with one another to improve a person’s health and well-being. Ayurveda also believes that non-synthetics such as herbal oil, Ayurvedic ghee, and organic food can help the body become healthier.

How Ayurveda Works? 

Ayurveda believes that the fast-paced lives that most people have are sources of stress that leads to the buildup of toxins in the body. When toxins build up, they prevent the proper functioning of body organs, which will lead to illnesses.

The Ayurvedic Cleanse.  Ayurveda’s concept of the interconnection of the mind, body, and spirit is the driving force of holistic healing approaches. A person needs to purify the body first by eliminating all the impurities found within it.

This process can be done by undergoing a digestive cleanse that will rid the body of impurities. This ayurvedic cleanse, also known as panchakarma, can be performed if you feel that you have toxin buildup in your body, showing the following symptoms:

  • irritability
  • fatigue
  • stiffness and aching muscles
  • cravings for sugar
  • skin problems
  • unintentional weight gain
  • candida outbreak

Phases of Panchakarma

The traditional panchakarma will usually last between three to four weeks to fully eliminate all the toxins that your body may have built up. However, you can customize your schedule for cleansing to suit your schedule. It is important, however, that you follow the three phases of ayurvedic cleansing.

The Preparation Phase: The first phase is preparing your gut by drinking lots of pure liquids and avoiding food with unhealthy ingredients. During this phase, you need to avoid eating meat or processed foods, beans, and dairy. Drinking coffee and alcohol are also prohibited.

During this process, your diet must contain many green leafy vegetables, and you must drink a lot of water. Drinking lots of water will enable your gut to be lubricated enough for digestion to proceed smoothly.

Drinking lots of water will also thin out the lymph fluids found in your lymph nodes. Lymph fluid carries white blood cells responsible for fighting bacteria and other pathogens that enter our bodies. Thinning the lymph fluid will allow it to flow smoothly to areas of the body that need white blood cells.

The Kitchari Phase: Once your gut has been freed from toxins, it is now time for the kitchari phase, also known as clean eating. You will then start eating meals that are made up of herbal oil and other essential oils.

The ingestion of healthy oils is known as oleation, and the mixture of herbal and essential oils that you will ingest is called Ayurvedic ghee. It is important to remember that people may have different reactions to having ayurvedic ghee in their daily diets.

So, if you are going for an ayurvedic cleanse for the first time, you must be prepared for nausea, headache, irritability, and mood swings while completing the program.

The Rejuvenation Phase: After you have gone through the Kitchari phase, it is now time for you to rejuvenate. In this phase, you are going back to clean eating but can reintroduce normal foods quickly. However, to fully feel your ayurvedic cleanse, it is still important to avoid toxin-rich foods such as alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and meat.

Performing an ayurvedic cleanse will give you a body that is free from toxins and a healthy gut. It is best to think of your cleansed body as a blank canvass from which you can start over.

Like a blank canvass, if you want that canvass to become a masterpiece, fill it with beautiful colors. If you want it to remain healthy, keep eating healthy, and incorporate as much herbal oil in your diets for your cleansed body.
