Ulcerative colitis treatment – Diet and Home Remedies to Cure Ulcerative colitis naturally

Marigold flowers

Ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease which causes the inflammation of rectum and colon. It is an auto immune disorder where the immune system starts killing the healthy cells of the body. There are several factors which are responsible for this disease like consumption of hot and spicy food, collagen disorders, food allergies, genetic factors, stress etc. Thereby, being a sufferer of ulcerative colitis it is mandatory to follow a strict diet and home remedies along with medical attention to cure ulcerative colitis.

Home remedies

Banana with curd – In order to pacify the symptoms of ulcerative colitis, consumption of a mashed banana in a bowl of fresh curd is quite good.

Petals of Marigold flower – Juice of petals of marigold flower work well to provide relief in the symptoms of ulcerative colitis.

Directions to use

  • Take the petals of fresh marigold flowers.
  • Crush them to get the extract.
  • Take two to three tablespoons of juice twice -thrice in day.
  • One can also chew 4-5 petals of flower twice – three times in a day.
  • Another option is to make herbal tea from the petals of Marigold flower. Take a few petals and boil them in 2 cups of water. Boil them until the entire quantity is reduced to half. Strain it and consume lukewarm concoction twice a day.

Pomegranate

Pomegranate is amongst one of the most effective home remedies given for ulcerative colitis.  It helps to reduce inflammation and also cools the body.

How to use

  • Consume 50 ml juice daily.
  • Another option is boil the peel of pomegranate in 3-4 cups of water until it reduces to one cup. Strain it and drink lukewarm.

Coconut water – Coconut water possesses healing properties. It helps to manage the digestive disorders.  In case of ulcerative colitis, it not only aids to soothe the mucous membrane of the colon and rectum but also helps to reduce the inflammation.

How to use

Consume two glasses of coconut water two times in a day.

Calendula

Being packed with anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, use of calendula is quite helpful to manage the symptoms of ulcerative colitis. It aids to improve the digestion and also assists in tissue healing.

How to use

  • Add calendula flowers in a cup of hot water.
  • Leave it steep for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Strain and drink this tea daily for twice- thrice.

Rose petals – Chewing a few fresh rose petals is also considered as an effective home remedy to manage ulcerative colitis.

Wheat Grass Juice

Wheat grass juice is a rich source of anti-oxidants that helps to reduce abdominal pain, diarrhea and rectal bleeding associated with this chronic condition.

How to use

Consume one glass of plain grass juice.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek is a great source of vitamins, iron, calcium, protein, vitamins A and C. It is also considered as an effective home remedy for ulcerative colitis. It aids in the formation of protective covering around the digestive tract and also reduces inflammation.

Directions

  • Take one teaspoon of powdered fenugreek seeds.
  • Add them into a cup of hot water.
  • Let it steep for 4-5 minutes.
  • Strain it and drink on a daily basis.

Diet remedies in ulcerative coltis

Things to be taken

  • Consume vegetables like radish, round gourd, ash gourd, pumpkin, bitter gourd, bottle gourd and ridge
  • Consume fruits like pear, apple, banana, Indian Goose Berry and pomegranate (without seeds).
  • Include spinach, mustard leaves, fenugreek leaves in your diet.
  • Drink plenty of water.

Things to be avoided

  • High fiber foods like cauliflower, broccoli, whole grains, corn, nuts, seeds, and popcorn may worse the problem.
  • Avoid dairy products like milk, cheese, buttermilk, butter.
  • Avoid citrus fruits.
  • Avoid Spicy and junk food
  • Avoid non vegetarian diet
  • Avoid tea and coffee
  • Avoid ice cream, biscuits, white bread, oats and nuts.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking.

 

 

Additional tips

  • Follow healthy daily routine.
  • Do light exercises and yoga because these techniques help to nurture whole body with oxygen and helps in better healing. Avoid exercises that put strain on your stomach.
  • Take small meals rather than eating in bulk.
