People who are overweight and who are not patient enough to workout often prefer to undergo liposuction surgery to get rid of their body’s excess fat. With this procedure, they need not exert any effort to trim down. They just have to go to the clinic and lie down while the doctor conducts the liposuction procedure.

Latest statistics show that this cosmetic treatment is the most popular in the world today. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS) also revealed that as people, particularly the women, become more conscious of their bodies, they are more than willing to spend and travel to find the most effective methods.

But it should be understood that undergoing this treatment does is not the end all. Patients need to follow a diet and exercise regimen afterwards to ensure that they retain their ideal weight and not allow fat to build up again. While areas of the body where liposuction was done can be fat-free permanently, the other parts still have the chance to experience fat buildup.

What Foods to Eat

Medical experts point out that a healthy diet and exercise are vital in preventing weight gain and maintaining the results of the procedure. The Mayo Clinic and the National Institutes of Health recommend a balanced diet containing 10-30 percent protein, 45-65 percent carbohydrates and 20-35 percent fat.

Preferably, lean protein should be eaten as they are low in fat. This should include fish, turkey and chicken. Skim dairy products are also recommended.

For carbohydrates, wheat bread, pasta and brown rice are best because of their fiber content.

Fruits and vegetables should be part of the diet as well.

What Exercise Is Best

Liposuction patients can start on their exercise regimen six weeks after the surgery. The goal of exercise is to counteract any weight gain which can possibly occur in the concerned body part.

Be sure, though, to consult your doctor first to determine the right workout routine for you. You can do some light walking and stretching initially before you proceed with routines that require greater effort and movements including jogging.

Eventually when your body has completely healed, cardio and aerobic exercises can be done at least three times each week. Light exercises, however, can be done on a daily basis.
