How Silk’n SensEpil Works – Silk’n SensEpil works on a laser and light-based photothermoysis. That basically means that optical energy is what will reduce the growth of hair on the body. The hair shaft will selectively absorb the light energy and transform that energy into heat. To put the process simply, the hair shaft pigment absorbs the light and the melanin in the hair is responsible for absorbing and generating heat from the light. That is what eventually disables the growth of the hair. Long-term removal of the hair is achieved when the hair is totally disabled.

After the first use of the Silk’n SensEpil the hair may seem to grow back. This is true with any laser hair removal treatment. Even though the hair has grown back, within two weeks many of these hairs will fall out. Additional treatments will be required to catch any new growth of hair. Using Silk’n SensEpil – Silk’n SensEpil can be used on most areas of the body, including the legs, arms, underarms, bikini line, and hair on the face that is below the cheek line. Exposure to the sun should be limited before and after treatments with Silk’n SensEpil. After using the Silk’n SensEpil a sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher should be used for three weeks.

There are different levels of energy that can be used with the Silk’n SensEpil machine. Starting with clean, shaven skin, use the machine on the lowest energy level, and progress upwards to higher levels. Skin should be shaven, not waxed.

The Silk’n SensEpil will automatically start at the lowest setting for safety. The user can then set the unit to higher levels. The Silk’n SensEpil should be used in two week intervals. Results are usually seen around the 4th treatment, and then the unit can be used monthly. Most people will see results in four to six weeks. Use on Darker Skin Tones – As Silk’n SensEpil works best on darker hair because it contain more melanin, black and dark brown hair will respond better to the treatments. Pigment, or melanin, also exists in the skin surrounding the hair on darker skinned people. The darker the skin complexion, the more risk of exposure that can result in burns, blisters, or hyper-or hypo-pigmentation. This is an issue with many laser treatment systems of hair removal. SensEpil does come with a Skin Color Sensor that will measure the tone of the skin and only work on suitable skin tones. If the skin is too dark or too tanned, the unit will become disabled as a safety device.

As for the hair itself, since Silk’n SensEpil works best on dark hair, light brown hair will usually require more treatments. Blond and grey hair does not respond to treatments very well, and red hair may show some response. All three will require multiple treatments before any results are noted.

Silk’n SensEpil – As with any light or laser treatment machines, reading all the instructions is very important. There are risks involved, though laser is relatively safe for use on the skin.
