Gorgeous, luscious locks don’t have to come from an expensive bottle of salon shampoo. In fact, there are a wide variety of natural hair care products you can make yourself, eliminating harsh ingredients and chemicals found in most commercial hair care products.
Even if you’re new to making your own beauty treatments, the following recipes are easy to make and require inexpensive ingredients you probably already have at home.
Shampoo
Natural shampoos can help with a variety of hair problems (dryness, frizz, split ends, etc.) or can simply be used as a gentle cleanser for frequent use. This chamomile-infused shampoo can be used often and helps retain moisture:
Chamomile Shampoo
4 bags Chamomile tea
4 tbsp. pure soap flakes
1 1/2 tbsp. glycerin (found at most drugstores or natural health stores)
Steep tea bags in 1 1/2 cups boiling water for about 10 minutes. Then remove the tea bags and add the soap flakes to the leftover liquid. The soap will need to soften at this point, so let stand until this happens. Finally, stir in the glycerin, mixing until well blended. Pour shampoo into plastic container and use for up to one week.
Conditioner
For moisturized, beautiful hair, this tropical-smelling conditioner will do the trick. What’s more, it’ll leave your locks smelling absolutely amazing!
Coconut and Avocado Conditioner
1 avocado (Peeled and mashed)
2 tbps. coconut milk
Blend mashed avocado with coconut milk until thoroughly mixed. You’ll want to make sure the mixture is about the consistency of shampoo. When using, leave on the hair for about 10 minutes for maximum results. As with all natural hair care products, the absence of preservatives will only allow you to keep this conditioner for up to one week.
Frizz Fighter
Troubled by dry, frizzy hair? This ingenious natural recipe will help combat frizzy hair and leave locks looking beautiful.
Deep Conditioning Treatment
1/2 cup of your favorite conditioner (try the tropical-infused variety above!)
1/4 cup honey
1 tbsp. almond oil
Blend ingredients together until thoroughly mixed. When well blended, evenly distribute throughout wet hair and leave on for about 20 minutes. Rinse clean for smooth, frizz-free hair!
Natural Dandruff Treatment
Dandruff, a common hair condition, can be treated easily and effectively using natural ingredients you already have.
Dandruff Treatment
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup white vinegar
Combine ingredients and apply treatment to your scalp. Rinse out. Follow with your normal shampoo and conditioning routine. For maximum results, use this treatment twice a week until the problem has been eliminated.
As with most natural hair care products, all of the previous recipes should be refrigerated and used within one week because they do not have preservatives like commercial shampoos do. These are only a handful of natural hair care products you can make at home, but they are easily some of my favorites!
For beautiful hair, try one of these homemade hair recipes and never spend money on commerical hair products again!
