I am always excited when I find something I can add to my diet that not only helps me lose weight, but can also improve my health.  Hemp hearts seem to do both.

In my research over the years I have come across information on hemp seeds but never realized the true value of them until I recently read a magazine article about the numerous health benefits.

After trying them, I highly recommend that everyone incorporate them into their daily diet. I was amazed at how they increased my energy levels and kept me feeling full.

They have a nutty taste which makes them the perfect addition to your morning oatmeal or smoothie. Adding them to your morning meal provides you with an energy boost and also keeps you from getting hungry until late in the day.

Hemp hearts are shelled hemp seeds – yes these are legal and they contain no THC. What they do contain is an almost complete array of proteins, fats and vitamins.

Hemp hearts have been placed in the category of “Super Foods“. They contain all of the twenty amino acids that humans need – including lots of protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals. These seeds have no cholesterol and very little saturated fat or sugar. The Omega 3 and Omega 6 EFAs are the perfect ratio balance for human health.

The protein in hemp hearts can be easily digested and so far no one has been allergic to any hemp foods. This is good news for those of you who are not able to eat nuts or gluten.

The health benefits are numerous. Research has shown that they can help you lose weight, increase your energy levels, lower cholesterol and blood pressure.

Hemp hearts can help you obtain your weight loss goals by keeping you hunger free for longer periods and also by increasing your energy so you are able to fit more activity into your daily schedule.

Another weight loss benefit is that you will eliminate your foods faster and will not be constipated. The fiber in hemp seeds is easily digested but it will keep your system moving so you won’t be bloated. Also be sure to read our article on high fiber vegetables that you can add to your diet to increase your fiber intake.

It is recommended that you eat four heaping tablespoons of hemp hearts each day, preferably at breakfast. I add them to my morning green smoothie each day.  Here are some of my favorite healthy green smoothie recipes.

You can also add some to your afternoon and evening meals. They are fantastic on salads, sandwiches, in baked goods, casseroles or stir fried vegetable dishes.

I really like the nutty taste – I have tried them in lots my dishes and they really add a nice flavor.

My favorite seeds used to be chia seeds and flax seeds, but with all of the benefits of hemp hearts, I have now moved them to the top of my list. I think that you will too once you see the results for yourself.
