Great Smoothie Recipes for Summer

smoothies

Rather than sucking down a bunch of calorie-laden sodas to quench your thirst this summer, break out the blender and make one of these delicious fruit smoothies to take the edge off a sultry summer day.

The Ultimate Strawberry Smoothie

Summer just isn’t the same without a classic strawberry smoothie to quench your thirst. Kid friendly and fairly healthy for you, this yummy recipe will carry you through summer and beyond.

  • About 1 1/4 cup chopped strawberries
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup vanilla ice cream

Combine all ingredients into blender. Blend on medium speed until desired consistency. Serve in a tall glass with a straw for good measure, and enjoy!

Peach Mango Dream

I call it a dream, but you can call this refreshing smoothie whatever you want. The smooth blend of peaches and mangos offers the ultimate in sweet satisfaction, and tastes great, too! Plus, you can vary this recipe to suit your taste buds!

  • 1 peach, sliced
  • 1 mango, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup juice (you can use orange juice or a peach/mango blend, whatever sounds good to you!)
  • 1/2 cup peach flavored yogurt or plain milk, your choice

Combine all ingredients into a covered blender. Puree until smooth and desired consistency. For extra sweetness, add a bit of honey. Pour into a tall glass and serve. Delicious!

The Elvis Smoothie

Otherwise known as a peanut butter and banana smoothie, this recipe was passed along to me by a friend of mine. This smoothie is especially kid friendly, because who doesn’t like peanut butter and bananas? For an extra special treat, freeze the bananas before adding them to the blender.

  • 1 large banana
  • 1/8 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup of milk, any variety
  • Honey to taste (I typically use about a tablespoon or two.)

Blend all ingredients together in a covered blender until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve immediately. Be careful with the amount of honey you use; taste test in between blendings to see if you need to add more or leave it alone. Too much honey can make this yummy drink much too sweet.

Pineapple Refresher

I’ve made this smoothie for company before, and it always gets rave reviews. The yummy mix of pineapple and berries adds a tropical twist to this delicious smoothie.

  • 1 pineapple, sliced into rings
  • 15 raspberries
  • 20 strawberries
  • 2 cups orange juice or orange juice blend

Blend pineapple rings first, then add the berries and juice and blend until smooth (about 30 seconds). When it has reached the consistency you like, serve and enjoy. Garnish with an orange slice for an extra special treat!

Watermelon Splash

There’s no fruit that is more reminiscent of summer than juicy watermelon, and this smoothie makes the most of that quintessential summer fruit by blending with other yummy flavors for a refreshing smoothie that is sure to go over well.

  • 1/2 of a small watermelon, sliced into cube sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup of raspberries
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • Fresh lemon juice

Combine all ingredients, including a squirt of fresh lemon juice, into the blender. Blend on high for about 30 seconds or until smooth. For an extra kick of flavor, add a pinch of salt for variety. Pour into chilled glasses and serve.

Smoothies are not only refreshing and delicious, they are quick to throw together and offer a convenient and healthier way to stay hydrated throughout the summer months. All of these recipes can be adapted to suit your taste buds, so feel free to make them as-is or experiement for a delicious summer treat you’re sure to love!
