Oily skin is prone to blackheads, acne, pimples, and dark spots. Your skin may appear thick, rough and shiny. Similar to any other skin type, it is necessary to take several precautionary measures and special care to reduce skin complications.

Wash your face

The best and easiest way to care for oily skin is the good skincare and cleansing routine. You should gently wash your face twice a day, one in the morning and other at night. Use soap and warm water or go for soap-less facial cleanser. Do not use harsh cleanser as they can enhance the production of oil. Try to use a gentle cleanser.

Use moisturizer

Commonly, it is believed that oily skin doesn’t need moisturizer. But it is not true, oily skin requires hydration and moisturizing. If you skip the moisturizer, the sebaceous glands in your skin will produce more oil to compensate. Therefore, go for water-based, noncomedogenic and oil-free moisturizer.

Use the cleanser twice every day

Choose a cleanser that contains tea tree oil, salicylic acid or sulfur because all of these ingredients dissolve extra sebum. Glycolic acid is an active ingredient as it recovers the overall texture and tone of the skin. Also, use an alcohol-free and mild toner after cleansing to get rid of impurities. After that, apply an oil-free light moisturizer.

Exfoliate once a week

It is important to exfoliate your skin to prevent the pores from clogging. Clogged pores are common that often happens with oily skin. The excessive production of sebum can lead to dead skin cells, which in turn lead to acne, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and dull skin. To remove the dead skin cells and dirt off your skin and renew the surface of the skin, you need to add exfoliation in your oily skin care routine.

Most people go for an oil-free scrub that is specifically designed for oily skin types. You need to be careful and gentle while applying it to your face so that it doesn’t irritate your skin.

Use oil-free cosmetics

If you are having oily skin, you must choose cosmetics that do not exacerbate your skin. While buying cosmetics, check for their labels carefully and always go for water-based and oil-free cosmetics. The effect of cosmetics on excessive oil production is still unclear but heavy makeup can clog pores on your skin.

Absorb excess oil

To maintain the balanced skin you need to absorb the excess oil on your skin. You can use oil-absorbing products such as mattifying setting powder, blotting papers, blotting sponges and setting sprays. These products will be your best friends to maintain balanced skin all day long.

Tone your skin

Only cleansing is not enough to keep your skin clean and oil-free. You need to apply a toner to balance the pH of your skin. Toner will help remove any bacteria or excess oil that may be left behind on the skin after the cleansing process.
