What is Autism and How to Manage it?

Every child and adult with autism is unique in their own way and each of them needs an autism treatment plan that must be tailored to address their individual needs. Autism requires an intensive care plan; it involves a comprehensive undertaking to include the family members and the medical and professional team of trained individuals.

Some treatment plans are catered for home training while others need special institutions like a classroom or a preschool. Some families prefer to choose both options for an effective autism treatment plan. Experts can use the terms therapy and treatment interchangeably, in other words, the term intervention may also mean to describe a treatment method.

Treatment Options for the Core Symptoms of Autism

Depending on the autism symptoms of the child and adult. Family members would like to choose an autism treatment program that helps improve their parenting style if their child is diagnosed with autism. If an adult has autism then they would need programs and interventions that help them improve behavioural issues, develop their personality and provide them with knowledge and education. Some of the popular autism treatment methods are:

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)

The Applied Behaviour Analysis or ABA is an intervention that works to change the behaviour systematically. The change in the behaviour is based on the learning principles that are derived from the field of behavioural psychology. In this method, positive behaviours and attitudes are appreciated while negative behaviours are discouraged. This treatment method helps teach new behaviours that can be applied to new situations, moreover, it allows the child or an adult to learn skills.

The Pivotal Response Treatment

The Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) was previously called the Natural Language Paradigm (NLP). This treatment method for autism is derived from the ABA. The goal of this intervention is to develop communication, positive behaviours socially and give the child relief from getting involved in disruptive self-stimulatory behaviours.

The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM)

The Early Start Denver Model ESDM is one of the most popular interventions for children with autism. The treatment is aimed at improving the symptoms in children aged 12 to 48 months. The program includes a curriculum focused on developing a curriculum that elaborates the skills the child might learn. It also includes a set of various teaching methods used to develop and deliver the content. This model is aimed at providing teaching practices based on Applied Behavioural Analysis or ABA.

Relationship Development Intervention

The Relationship Development Intervention (RDI) is a system of behavioural modification that includes a system used to introduce different behavioural changes by using positive reinforcement. The RDI treatment is one of the most effective treatments of autism for people of any age including children. The aim is to form a personal relationship with the person having autism. Using strong bonds and relationship with a person will gradually help in establishing social connections. RDI is an autism treatment where the child is able to share their emotions once the therapist is able to establish a strong bond with the child or an adult with autism.
