Trying to stick to eating healthy on a daily basis can be a hard task especially when your life is full of events and activities for yourself and your family. In order to save time, many of us find ourselves stopping at fast food restaurants to purchase food for the family. However, the good news is that you can still make healthy food choices while eating on the run. Here are five tips to keep you on the right healthy track.

Tips for Healthy Eating on the Run

Plan Ahead – While you are planning out your day for you and your family, you should also think ahead and plan your meals as well. As eating healthier becomes more popular, many restaurants are jumping on the bandwagon and have developed healthy eating menus as well. Try to make plans to stop at a restaurant that has a healthy menu selection for your meals for that day.

Keep Healthy Snacks with You – Most healthy eating plans suggest that you eat snacks throughout the day to curve your appetite. To stop yourself from eating unhealthy foods such as candy bars and high calories chips, you should make sure that you pack nonperishable snacks foods in your purse, backpack, or briefcase. Some great choices would be crackers, granola bars, or trail mix. You should also try eating a piece of fruit before you start your day.

Order Smaller Portions – If you end up at a restaurant that does have a healthy menu selection, you should try to order smaller portions. Some restaurants have child menus that are similar to items on the regular menu. The only difference is the size of the meal. Not only will you eat less but you can save money as well. Definitely stay away from super-sized meals.

Split Your Meal – If you end up with a large portion meal, remember you don’t have to eat it all at once. You can split the meal in half and take the rest home to eat at another time. If you are having lunch with friends or coworkers, see if they are willing to split a meal with you. By doing it this way, you won’t be overeating.

Drink Lots of Water – When eating healthy, water is your best friend. It is recommended that you drink at least 64 oz of water each day. Instead of order a high calorie drink, you should order a glass of water with your meal. Not only is drinking water good for you, it will help reduce your appetite by making you feel full.
