10 Beauty Resolutions to Stick to in 2018

NUEVOLUTION

At the beginning of the New Year, many people across the world all share one thing in common. Which is? The creation of New Year resolutions, of course! While setting goals is easy, the journey towards the finish line is often met with setbacks and discouragement. However, there are some goals that are simply worth keeping, no matter how challenging! Consider these ten beauty resolutions that you deserve to keep this year.

1. Get more sleep

Makeup can only do so much for a tired complexion. Taking care of your skin begins in the bedroom! Believe it or not, a good night’s sleep is imperative to healthy and vibrant skin. While most experts agree seven to eight hours is sufficient for the average person, some may need up to nine hours of restful slumber to see a change. This is because sleep deprivation causes a decrease in the blood flow around your face, adding to a drab or ashen complexion. Get that beauty sleep!

2. Drink more water

Drinking sufficient water can do waters for your health, but did you know that drinking the proper amount of water can help improve your beauty routine? Our bodies are made up of 60% water, but our bodies are constantly losing fluids. By balancing the loss with a healthy intake of at least 2 liters of water daily, our skin will be dewier and softer, contributing to a glowing complexion that bounces right back.

3. Throw away old makeup—and clean your brushes daily

Makeup, like anything else, has an expiration date. Experts generally agree that mascara should be switched out every three months, eyeliner and eye shadow every six to twelve months, and lipstick every year or so. Foundation, along with blushes and powders, generally lasts up to a year. Regularly cleaning your brushes is another step you can take to protect your skin from old makeup.

4. Commit to natural products

So many cosmetics available today are full of chemicals and suspicious ingredients, like parabens, talc, and gluten. Commit yourself to all-natural makeup products, such as mineral makeup, and do your skin a favor.

5. Eat healthier

What we put inside our bodies can drastically affect our health, including our hair, skin, and nails. Take a stand for your health and cut down on food items heavy with artificial flavors and chemical substances. Look for foods that are rich in protein and antioxidants, like fruits and vegetables.

6. Wash your face

No matter how tired you are at the end of the day, washing your face with a gentle, yet effective, cleanser is vital to keeping your skin healthy and free from pesky breakouts. Makeup left on overnight, or even during a nap, can clog pores and muddy your complexion.

7. Exfoliate

Exfoliating your skin a few times weekly will rid your face of dead skin cells and contribute to an even, glowing skin tone. Exfoliating can also help increase blood flow, and it’s something the entire body can benefit from.

8. Protect your skin

In addition to daily makeup use and the strain of every day activity, exposure to the elements can take a toll on your skin. Protect your face (and body!) with a rich moisturizer and a strong SPF. Some foundations and moisturizers come with SPF in the formula, which can omit a step from a busy morning routine.

9. Be gentle on your hair

Our hair goes through a lot. Protect it by using heat protectants and hair serums, or take it a step further and try to style it without the use of damaging tools and chemicals.

10. Ditch those unhealthy habits

Regardless of who we are, we all likely have a bad habit or two that affects our beauty routine. Identify the habit that’s negatively affecting you, and set out to stop it! Whether it’s picking your nails or going to bed with your makeup on, a determined mindset will help you accomplish your goal of defeating your bad habit.

No matter who you are or what kind of resolutions you have set for the New Year, beauty resolutions are worth keeping. There are few things as worthy of care as your skin and body—treat them with the respect and care that they deserve!
